Former Gov. Mike Huckabee (R-Ark.) says President Obama is “dangerous” for prioritizing climate change over radical Islam.
“Obama’s blindness is beyond baffling — it’s dangerous,” he wrote in a Tuesday op-ed for Fox News.
“Two weeks after terrorist attacks rocked Paris, he is visiting France — not to focus on fighting global terrorism, but to focus on the global warming ‘security imperative.’”
“It shouldn’t take another Paris attack for the White House to open its eyes: radical Islamic terrorism is a much greater threat than sunburn,” the 2016 GOP presidential candidate added. “America needs a commander-in-chief, not a weather-obsessed meteorologist-in-chief.”
Obama visited Paris earlier this week for talks with world leaders on an international pact aimed at combatting climate change.
Huckabee said no amount of government action could alter the climate.
“The federal government cannot control the weather — period,” he wrote. "We can control borders, military assets, critical airspace and American intelligence.
“We can also kill Islamic terrorists and radical ISIS murderers,” Huckabee said, referencing the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria.
“America needs a president focused on what we can control, not fixated on weather patterns which we cannot.
“What will it take Obama to wake up to this menace? Maybe he would take ISIS seriously if he discovered they didn’t recycle.”
Obama expressed confidence Tuesday that the promises he made on climate regulations would endure beyond his presidency. He pledged, for example, that the U.S. would reduce its greenhouse gas emissions between 26 and 28 percent by 2025.
The president additionally vowed that the U.S. would contribute $3 billion toward the Green Climate Fund, which helps impoverished nations deal with climate change.
Paris is still reeling from last month's terrorist attacks. About 130 people died and more than 300 others were wounded in the Nov. 13 massacre. ISIS has claimed responsibility for the attacks.
